Kaiserweis
The gourmet paradise in the mountain range Kaisergebirge
The Kaiserweis region – that is the region around the Kaisergebirge nature reserve with the Kaiserwinkl and Kufsteinerland – unites a variety of traditional and innovative artisan gourmet businesses that have dedicated themselves with special devotion and care to the production of food and gourmet products.
The Kaiserweis cheese region
The production of cheese in particular has a long tradition in the Kaiserweis region – shaped by the alpine climate and the farming structures that have evolved over centuries with alpine pasture management, there is a density of cheese expertise here – with over 15 producing farms and alpine dairies as well as over 60 different types of cheese – that is probably unrivalled anywhere else in the Alpine region.
The well-known hay-milk cheese is produced here and offered in a variety and quality that is unparalleled. Sustainability does not have to be documented here, because the milk is either processed immediately at the alpine dairy or travels a maximum of 10 kilometres to the alpine dairy, where the cheese is produced according to traditional methods, refined and stored for maturing. Incidentally, the density of organic farms in the Kaiserweis region is also the highest in all of Tyrol.
The cheese from the Kaiserweis cheese region is in great demand and can be found – not only as Tyrolean mountain cheese and Tyrolean alpine cheese, which have been awarded the highest European quality seal "GU" (protected origin) for regional origin, production and processing – in international delicatessen counters and enjoys a legendary reputation among cheese gourmets.
You can find Tyrolean mountain cheese, Tyrolean alpine cheese and all other products in Kaiserwinkl at the producing companies, in the gastronomy and in the cheese showcases of the hotels or best of all directly on the alpine pasture.
Kaiserweis is surrounded by many other producers who share the same honest standards, because cheese is a product that harmonises perfectly with many others – from bread to bacon, beer, gin, honey and herbs. This variety of taste experiences can only be found in the Kaiserweis cheese region.
